Tiger Spirit - Tai Chi for ages 9 +
(This has been postponed until Jan '26 - places MUST be booked)

There are SO many reasons to begin practicing tai chi from a young age. The lessons are a little different to my adult lessons in that there is more focus on flexibility, strength and relaxation. It teaches body awareness, concentration, discipline, relaxation and creativity to youngsters. All of these are increasingly important in modern society - but being able to relax and use creativity has also been proven to aid academic progress and maturity.

Being body aware and being able to attach a feeling of tenseness in the body to the emotion of stress can help youngsters learn to be more resilient, learn emotional regulation and learn the art of responding rather than reacting to circumstances.

The lessons will also be fun, much like my adult lessons I'm not too serious. The sequences of tai chi are beautiful, and children tend to learn sequences faster than adults. In no time they will have mastered the simplified 24 forms and be moving on to the much longer 103 long form, maybe some 32 sword form (with retractable non sharp swords for tai chi use) and additionally the 42 combined competition form.

Tai Chi is non combative but is based on martial arts. All of the movement (or postures) have martial applications. Their movements will likely be lower with longer stances - with this they'll learn breathing control and proper belly breathing. At the end of each session we might do some flexibility stretching and relaxation techniques. Within the sessions there might also be some games to build community and confidence.

This class begins at Acle St Edmunds Church hall on the 15th September at 6pm and will last for 45 to 55 minutes. The cost for this class is £5 per child, pay per class.

If you have questions, please feel free to send me an email, message or call. (I can't always answer calls if I'm in a class or if I'm at home as my signal isn't always great - modern tech heh!)

See you there
